York stone: A generic term for sandstones and gritstones from the north of England.
Sandstone: Inorganic secondary stone often with clear bedding strata made from fine rounded particles.
Gritstone: Inorganic secondary stone with less obvious bedding strata with angular, usually coarse grains.
Limestone: Sedimentary rock consisting mainly of calcium carbonate
Granite: Acid, igneous, plutonic rock consisting essentially of alkali feldspars, quartz and diorite.
